Living in popular tourist destinations is all fun and games until visitors start randomly walking around your homeland, thinking they’re on a movie set. And if this sounds like a lot, wait for what's coming.Isn't it totally amazing
when the tourists start complimenting your English speaking or communication skills as if you somehow came from a different planet altogether?
TBH, the encounters mentioned here are merely snippets, and we’re sure the locals in these places have thousands of similar hilarious stories to tell. As we delve into some of these stories, are you ready for one hell of a read?
#1 - Any plans of becoming lion food?
One of our friends shared an online account of his travels to a nearby grocery store at a popular tourist destination where he happened to eavesdrop on a conversation between several Asian visitors. They were exchanging pictures of themselves holding a lion’s cub and explaining how they scrambled out of their jeeps to take a picture with these wild animals. Getting out of your car to take pictures with baby lions? That’s pretty smart!
#2 - Baby bear-back ride
Locals recount seeing a Japanese couple put their child on the back of a baby black bear who was just peacefully mulling on the side of the highway. Thankfully, the bear didn’t decide to have an impromptu dinner feast right then and there so no one ended up getting hurt. Could people be any more obtuse?
#3 - Please get out!
Back when Celebration, Florida was first designed, people couldn;t quite figure out what the planned community was. This is why it was so strange to find tourists walking into real homes of real people at odd timings and then being asked to leave the space. How embarrassing!
#4 - Weird questions 101
Sometimes tourists don’t even realize what they’re asking locals to do. For instance, a worker at a local lodge in a small ski town was once asked to turn off the smoke since it was ruining the tourist’s view! As it turns out, that ‘smoke’ was, in fact, fog. Now that’s absent-mindedness on a whole new level.
#5 - Would you like to float on an iceberg?
Tourism in Iceland has been booming for quite a while now and with that, there are bound to be some interesting tales. In the summer of 2020, several enthusiastic tourists tried jumping on icebergs and floating around in the wilderness. Unfortunately, the foolish move ended up costing a precious life after one person drowned while trying to climb a rock and getting swept by a wave in the process.
In our POV..
Visiting tourist spots sure is fun, and it’s natural to get overly excited about landscapes and natural beauty you have not experienced previously. But people should think twice before engaging in activities that can become dangerous pretty quickly, and not just for themselves, but for others around them too.
