If you think learning languages like Turkish or Mandarin is difficult, try watching an episode of RuPaul's “Drag Race” show. You'll feel as if you've entered a whole new world you know absolutely nothing about.
Shocked? Well, you should be! The show has a truly unique lingo, absolutely different from what we use in our everyday conversations. Though the words drag queens use may seem common, their underlying meaning and usage are very much different than a conventional conversation.
Wondering what's so unusual about them? Well, stay tuned to find out for yourself!
#1 - Party city
Say the phrase ‘party city’ and our minds immediately resort to cities like Las Vegas or Atlantic City. But in “Drag Race”, however, the term is used to insult people with an odd sense of fashion. For instance, season 4's Phi Phi O'Hara used the term while insulting Sharron Needles for her "scary," gothic style.
#2 - Bar queen
If you tried to guess the meaning behind this one, chances are, you are at least partially right. A bar queen is someone who owns the bar, meaning that her presence alone is enough to catch people's attention. But in the drag world, again, it's meant as an insult to people, implying that they are trying to be a big fish in a small pond by performing exclusively in small bars.
#3 - Booger
If you call someone booger, it means either their clothes or sense of makeup or hair is sloppy. In a nutshell, it means that a drag queen is visually unattractive, and you can't bear her sight.
#4 - Ki Ki
Not to be confused with the famous Kiki challenge that took TikTok by storm, Ki Ki here refers to gossip. To talk about spicy things going in the competition, or the entertainment industry, or simply about someone's personal life.
#5 - Heather
What do you call a fearless woman? Most people would say bold or confident, right? But when drag queens look fierce or absolutely perfect from top to bottom, they are called “heather”. Just the opposite of booger.
#6 - Flipper
Usually, a flipper is someone who has a very short-term investment strategy that involves buying and selling assets like real estate quickly. But in the drag world, it refers to the removable false teeth drag queens wear to create an illusion of perfect pearly whites.
